Gene for ear wax - BBC Jun 6 2002 9:54PM ET [Genetics News]
In possibly the most bizarre piece of genetics research I have seen, scientists at the Nagasaki University School of Medicine have identified the gene encoding a protein regulating ear wax production.
Whether this discovery will have any medical importance remains to be seen, although I doubt it. The research is published in the Lancet. These guys should be up for an Ig Nobel this year.
Oh, and did you know that ear wax comes in two 'flavours'? Wet and dry. Honest.

fascinating stuff
I doubt there'll be medical significance either, but I like it. I remember learning that there are 2 ear wax types ages ago and have been fascinated by it ever since...
