Probably not fresh news, but I thought it was worth pointing out that Sourceforge has a bioinformatics category. There are currently 419 projects in various states of activity.

'bioinformatics'
I had subscribed to this category (emails when anything in that section got updated) .. some of the stuff there is only very loosely related to bioinformatics, and some of it not at all.
Sourceforge
Some of these projects are being actively developed. I personally know that jmol and the Taverna projects are almost near completion. Its nice to see such a load of interest in OpenSource software picking up in Bioinformatics. At least the same mistakes that were made with molecular modeling software are not being done with this field.
