Just spotted over at Bioinformatics.org that Paracel are an ex-company.

I discussed them a while ago in relation to parallel BLAST. Wonder if they will eventually just release their code?

how would this help?

Paracel sold specialized hardware (optimized for dynamic programming). How would this speed up BLAST? It is already optimized for parallel machines.

Read this story

Read this. BLAST as it stands (i.e. the NCBI version) is not parallelised. Paracel used to make software as well as hardware, including a parallelised BLAST.

You should look into TurboBLAST, its a parrllised version of BLAST and requries no specialized hardware to be optomoszed. it is also priced a fraction of what paracel charged... contact cameron he can give you more details... shafie@turboworx.com
