biobar (a toolbar for firefox/mozilla) version 1.2 is now released in its final form. The toolbar is now slimmer than before and accomodates searching 26 different databases.

You may also be interested in the bioFOX project. This is another mozilla/firefox project which provides bioinformatics analysis tools from the context menu (right mouse) on selected browser text.

Its hardly advertising for the competition !! I think the two tools work well together in providing a search and analysis component for bioinformatics. Ideally we should combine the two projects, and who knows that might happen sometime.

Seriously, this is what I love about open source development - people working together for the common good. I had terrible trouble convincing my boss that there was such a thing when we first entered computational biology ("Noone just gives their stuff away!") was his reaction. I think it runs counter to the culture of competition in research science, which is why a lot of old-school researchers just "don't get it".
