The Synaptic Leap

I'm the founder of The Synaptic Leap We're also using Drupal. Our site has been live since late November. I'm coming out to the SF Bay Area May 30 - June 6. Is anybody maintaining NodalPoint interested in getting together to discuss possible synergies and philosophies?

Email me or reply to the post to discuss.

Open Source Sample/Lib Inventory Management System

Enfold Systems just released a Open Source LIMS based on Zope 3 (written in Python) and the python Object/Relational module, SQLObject.

SIP's Project Page is at the enfold systems website. It has flash demo's, screenshots and a link to Sample Inventory Program's Sourceforge Prroject It uses Postgresql but should work on MySQL and on Windows, OSX or *BSD. Link to download 1.0.2

The SIP application requires the Zope 3.0.x release of the Zope application server, PostgreSQL or Sybase Relational Database Servers and the Python 2.3.5 language runtime. Many integration tests exist for various aspects of the SIP application ranging from command line importing of samples and project configuration to CSV web based importing of sample modifications.

Nodalpoint upgraded to Drupal release 4.6.3

Drupal 4.6.3 has been released, including a fix for a new security vulnerability in the third-party XML-RPC library that Drupal ships with. Upgrading (or removing xmlrpc.php) is Strongly-Recommended, nodalpoint's Drupal install has been patched accordingly.

Service has resumed

Hello again everyone, sorry for being away for so long. The short story is that the server hosting nodalpoint was compromised on the 11th of July. Since then various personal and practical issues have prevented me from getting the site back.

The main practical issue was hosting, as you can see this problem has now been solved for the time being. I will put together a slightly longer post with more details regarding the break in and hosting situation, this will be posted shortly. If you can't wait then you can find some of the nodalpoint regulars on the nodalpoint IRC channel (#nodalpoint on Freenode).

Moderating multiple entries

We still seem to be getting double entries for some pubmed results; usually, there's a complete entry and one lacking title/abstract. Until the problem is resolved (a bug report has been filed), I sugggest we vote -1 for the incomplete versions. Or, if people agree, I'd be happy to cull through the moderation queue and delete duplicate entries....

DNS and upgrade

I recently initated a domain name transfer for nodalpoint.org this has been approved by the old registra (they immediatly cancelled my account) so there is a possiblity that nodalpoint's DNS records might disappear for a day or two.

I am also preparing to upgrade to Drupal 4.2 and the EUtilities modules from the BioPHP project. Stay tuned...

Admin: taxonomies

I've started updating the site taxonomies. I'm essentially going to take down the science category, and split the terms into smaller, more appropriate groups; I'll also add categories we missed last time. Comments more than welcome. If people would like to chip in, please feel free. I'd appreciate it if you dropped me a line, so that we don't duplicate our efforts.
