Microsoft vs Linux rant.

I love to point this out..

.. to come and fix all your computer when you crash it!

*when* you crash it.
I understand Neil's problems, but I've never seen Linux fall over other than the result of bad hardware (ie, memory, harddisk) or a broken kernel. I have had the console appear to freeze, but all network services still happily churned away.

However, the flip side of that coin - Linux can be harder to use. Can be. Not is.
With the advancements being made by both the KDE and Gnome crews, as well as the funky stuff happening in XFree86 it is getting easier and easier - soon, Linux will be a lot like Windows is, i suspect - the command line interface that we know and love will be comparable (in people's minds) to the Windows "Command Prompt".
This can be both good and bad - more users and more usability means more support, etc. However, it means that the general user is no longer an advanced user or a hacker - I have noticed the decline of quality of discussion on some Linux-related forums.

And also if you're (un)luckly enough to have a Campus Agreement all the software is free, and you'll have a departmental NT/W2k guru to come and fix all your computer when you crash it!
