Proposal only

Not a lot going on there yet is there. Worth keeping an eye on though. Someone should also write a utility for tracking dead sourceforge projects ;-)

This new year, I find myself wondering if there will ever be use of common, accepted standards in life science informatics. The concept seems based on a notion that data providers will never change. Who knows if we will even be using the web as we know it in 10, 20, 30 years time?

LSID Implementation

From the ic3-techarch list:

The Life Science Identifier (LSID) specification is a proposal for uniform identification and retrieval of life science data. The current lack of a uniform system is an obstacle to automating high-throughput processing techniques such as genomic computational annotation and sequence array analysis.

LSID specification, Sourceforge project page.
