Not really

I think the object should be to make a point, or draw attention to some aspect of a field. In this context, the provenance of the article(s) is a secondary consideration, isn't it? There are an awful lot of non-OA journals out there...

Ideally open access but...

Open access would be the ideal situation, but as you say, that will exclude interesting contributions.

Perhaps we should take matters into our own hands and post the papers. Anarchy!

I'm wondering if the paper(s)

I'm wondering if the paper(s) of the month should be open access ?

I don't think it should be a requirement, but if at all possible they should be. If it was a requirement it would ignore papers such as Chris' recent contributions, which are rather interesting btw, and I don't think this is a good thing...

And so another month is almost gone...

As much a reminder to myself as a spur for the rest of you...

Can it be the end of April already? Where does the time go? More importantly, get thinking about your next submission for "Bioinformatics paper of the month" in 2 days time.
