Survey Question

Hello, I'm about to start a survey/literature review on "Protein Sequence Classification" or something of the sort. I was wondering if anyone has any advice on what tools I should be using. Particularly anything to keep track of all the references? searching for references? and what program to write it in?

Any and all comments are welcome

Bioinformatics

hi i am ashok reddy, interesting on bioinformatics.

OSS Bioinformatics at Sourceforge

Probably not fresh news, but I thought it was worth pointing out that Sourceforge has a bioinformatics category. There are currently 419 projects in various states of activity.

Just introducing myself!

Hi. I've just signed up as a new member and would like to let everyone know that I'm especially interested in gene therapy related stuff, specifically related to neuroscience. I'll try and make some contributions to this blog from time to time.

ICSB 2004

I'm attending ICSB 2004 , a conference on Systems Biology here in Heidelberg. I attended two tutorials over the weekend, one on Petri-Nets and one on Virtual Cell.

More Nobel-related news

2004 Chemistry prize - "for the discovery of ubiquitin-mediated protein degradation".

I like the way biologists can win in multiple categories ;-)

Also, RIP Maurice Wilkins - the 3rd man of DNA. And then there was one...

Finally

It is finally over, I put the finishing touches on my PhD thesis yesterday and I'm leaving the country on Monday. I have a postdoc job in Taiwan at the Bioinformatics Institute. I will be keeping the site going, never fear nodalpoint will live on!

Updates from me will be sporadic over the next few weeks as I deal with moving and culture shock. I'm sure everyone will keep the site in good order while I'm away. And thank you all for contributing to nodalpoint and making the site worth all the effort.

Paracel bust - free BLAST for all?

Just spotted over at Bioinformatics.org that Paracel are an ex-company.

I discussed them a while ago in relation to parallel BLAST. Wonder if they will eventually just release their code?

2004 Nobel Prize in Medicine

This year's Nobel went to Richard Axel and Linda Buck

"for their discoveries of odorant receptors and the organization of the olfactory system"
